10 Crazy Stories Warner Bros Needs To Tell In The DC Movie Multiverse
5. Gotham By Gaslight
Another iconic Elseworlds tale, Gotham by Gaslight is another self-contained story it would be great to see brought to the big screen. A complete reinvention of the Batman character, Brian Augustyn and Mike Mignola took the Dark Knight to Victorian times to show the hero hunting Jack the Ripper in Gotham City.
There's more to this one than that, though, as North America is now a commonwealth run by the oppressive British government, and Bruce Wayne is about to join the clergy when he learns his parents were murdered not by a random gunman, but the government because of their political beliefs.
Learning that many of his fellow heroes were either victims of cruel government experiments or created by them, Batman sets out to make things right. This has all the makings of a gritty, R-Rated feature not too different in tone to Joker. Darker stories work in the DC Universe, and it's hard to get more grim than the events of Gotham by Gaslight.
This has already been adapted into an animated feature, but it deserves the live-action treatment.
