2. The Breaking Into The Apartment Scene In Rear Window
Rear Window, starring James Stewart, allows audiences into the claustrophobic life of wheelchair-bound photographer Jeff, who spends his days at home innocently spying on all his neighbours to pass the time of day. It turns out that one of Jeff's neighbours isn't as dull as he seems though: salesman Lars Thorwald seems like he might just be a little more sinister than everyone seems to believe. In fact, it looks like he might have just killed his wife. In a bid to find out whether Thorwald is the murderer Jeff is convinced of him to be, Jeff's girlfriend Lisa (played by Grace Kelly) takes it upon herself to climb into the apartment in order to look for evidence. Jeff watches through his camera, helpless, as Lisa rummages around the apartment looking for clues. But a shape at the door means trouble: Thorwald has come home. The scene sees Lisa hiding in the apartment, then to be found by Thorwald - who turns the lights out so Jeff can't see what's happening to her. This scene is made all the scarier by the vaguely cheerful music playing in the background - and it's not until Lisa escapes that you can release your breath and praise God that Thorwald didn't actually kill her.
I love Stephen King and music festivals; I eat my toast upside down; I daydream about getting married probably a bit too much; and I wish every day for a pet sausage dog puppy (who never materialises – sob).
