10 Most Cringeworthy Moments In The Harry Potter Movies
5. Harry & Cho Under The Mistletoe - Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix
One of the main plot points that runs through the Harry Potter series is that Harry loves Cho Chang, who is shown as a Scottish Asian girl in the movie versions - she is also a bore. Given that Harry can be something of a bore, too, though, it seems like they're a good match. When he's 15, Cho actually serves as Harry's first ever kiss - the scene is well-written in the books, but awkwardly rendered on the big screen. Seriously: it'll make you puke. So firstly, the line delivery inherent to this scene is awful. Daniel Radcliffe seems to have forgotten how to act in these moments (insert joke about him never have been able to act here), whilst Katie Leung - who plays Cho - emits all the emotional capacity of a slice of bread. It doesn't help that, moments before they kiss, they're talking about Cho's dead boyfriend. Talk about turn-offs. Above all, there is also no chemistry between them - it all plays out like the pair are just practicing their lines or running the script in preparation of doing it properly later. And then there's the mistletoe (oh, how clever; what a neat plot device). Yes, Harry and Cho's kiss is inspired by the fact that they both notice that they're standing under mistletoe whilst practising their lines, which - in turn - blossoms beautifully as their lips touch. The whole thing is cringetastic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wKrk72D-2Q
