10 Critically Reviled Action-Horror Movies (That Weren't Actually That Bad)

3. World War Z

Van Helsing 2004
Paramount Pictures

A film plagued with budget issues and reshoots, it's crazy that Brad Pitt's zombie epic turned out as fun as it did. World War Z focuses on a zombie outbreak across the whole world, which leads Pitt's character to be called back into action as a UN field agent.

The spectacle of World War Z is phenomenal - after all, everyone can remember the scene in Jerusalem in which a sea of zombie are clambering over the wall to get into the city. This high octane zombie action made for a nice change to the usual slow and somber zombie movie, particularly in 2013 when The Walking Dead was at the height of its popularity.

Pitt will never NOT be a good leading man. He is genuine and believable as both the action hero and the family man, letting the crazy events of the film feel like they have actual stakes and aren't just spectacle.

While not a perfect film - as it is decidedly uneven in places, and tends to jump around a lot at a break neck pace - World War Z is an exhilarating zombie rush.
