10 Defining Films In The Age Of 3D

2. Coraline (2009)

I€™m using Coraline, as this was the first one I saw, but in reality it could be whatever the first animated 3D film you saw was (Bolt, Monsters Vs Aliens, Up). Because no matter what the film was, I can guarantee you thought the 3D was brilliant. In fact, I bet you spent more time mesmerised by how it went back into the screen than concentrating on the film itself. Everyone has a great first experience with 3D (hence why Avatar did so well with the masses) because it is a great little gimmick. I've rewatched Coraline recently and it's really brilliant, but there€™s plenty I didn't pick up on the first time because I was spending so much time on the 3D. These film's laid the groundwork for Avatar with (as will be discussed later) impressive 3D. It€™s important to remember when these films hit that 3D didn't incur a surcharge. It was as these films grew in popularity and teenagers starting wearing the glasses around town in an attempt to look hipster that an additional ticket cost was added, long before the arrival of the Na€™vi.
