10 Directors Who Could Save Dying Movies Franchises

5. Christopher McQuarrie - Han Solo Series

If you one of the many people to check out the last two installments of the Mission Impossible series, you'll know just what McQuarrie is capable of. His ability to craft intricate, memorable action scenes is among the industry's best. Long story short, McQuarrie's penchant for making excellent action-packed thrill rides would make him an asset for any franchise.

While he's also a personal top pick for the Superman franchise, his Mission Impossible experience would make him perfect for a potentially-great series whose initial installment didn't quite live up to expectations. A Han Solo series, on its own, does actually boast some promise, and Solo definitely illustrated that.

There's just no denying how much the reshooting process seemed to negatively affect the film, in addition to the uninspired screenplay that (mostly) struck the exact beats viewers expected. In order for a Han Solo series to take off, these movies need to POP. They need energy, sharply-directed action sequences, and a strong group dynamic between Han and his fellow rebellious types.

Solo, with McQuarrie's vision and energy, would give it the power necessary to be more than just a spinoff. Fans want these grimier, (dis)honorable stories outside of the central series, but they must be done right. As long as Disney can resist the urge to meddle, McQuarrie will give Star Wars fans their first must-watch spinoff.
