10 Directors Who Could Save Dying Movies Franchises
4. Sam Raimi - Fantastic Beasts
While watching The Crimes of Grindlewald, there was a new feeling setting in on audiences as the film reached its end. There was a sense of messiness unseen before, paired exquisitely with a side of sameyness.
As talented as David Yates is as a director, it's clear that he just doesn't have much else to add any more. J.K Rowling is the undeniable creative voice behind this series (especially without pre-written books to work with), but CoG showed that she needs a visionary partner who can provide more than just flashy visuals.
That's where Sam Raimi would fit in beautifully. Known best for the original Spider-Man and Evil Dead series, each of Raimi's projects has his unique voice and style. He's able to terrify you with POV movements and shot compositions that make you feel like the camera itself was possessed, but that doesn't mean he's incapable of pulling at your heartstrings and embracing an unabashed cheesiness that always feels genuine.
Fantastic Beasts has shown its promise, but it already appears to be losing its identity. Someone like Raimi who can provide both the scares and the heartfelt moments would be a perfect fit for the wizarding world.
