6. Denis Villeneuve
If the name isn't familiar, hopefully Denis Villeneuve's filmography will be. Movies like Incendies, Prisoners, and Enemy couldn't be more different to Marvel's big budget superhero outings, but looking at an unknown, so to speak, could pay off for the studio in the same way that hiring the guy who directed Swingers did back in 2008 with Iron Man. It's fair to say that Villeneuve hasn't done anything to prove he's capable of making the jump to a blockbuster, but the same can be said for countless other filmmakers who have directed their first studio tentpole to great success. Whether Marvel would want to risk it is another matter entirely, but they would be foolish to ignore a talent like this. Villeneuve has a very different and unique approach to his films, and the performances he's gotten out of actors like Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal could be described as career bests for them. Providing he has a passion for the source material, this is another director who it could be worth taking a gamble on to make Avengers: Infinity War truly great.
