10 Directors Whose Debut Movie Ended Their Careers

Kerry Conran must have been over the moon when somebody said: "Okay, you can make Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, and you know what? Here's Jude Law and Angelia Jolie, and $70 million dollars so you can ensure that this is the best looking movie that it can be." For a first time writer and director, such words must've been something of a dream come true.

Unfortunately, nobody actually went to see the movie when it came out in 2004. Which meant that Kelly Conran was suddenly a guy who had lost his financiers almost $20 million dollars, which did not bode well for his career, in the sense that his career is now over, and the poor dude can't get another directing job because he "messed up" when it counted most: helming a super-expensive debut movie which he wrote.

Who else was there to lay the blame on?

What's worse, Sky Captain isn't even that bad and it actually looks great. Go figure.
