10 Directors With Make Or Break Movies For 2020

3. Adam Wingard - Godzilla Vs Kong

No Time To Die
Warner Bros.

When this film was originally ushered into the spotlight in 2015, the initial response to it was one of genuine optimism.

We'd seen a recent King Kong (Peter Jackson) and we'd seen two modern interpretations of Godzilla (Roland Emmerich and Gareth Edwards). Now the prospect of seeing these two titans of the monster world come to blows once again in 2020 was becoming a realistic one.

This was surely set to be a home run, no matter what... right?

Well, things were looking up after the aforementioned 2014 version of Godzilla - helmed by Edwards - did enough to ignite interest in an impending Monster-verse. Then, Kong: Skull Island happened and that early excitement seemed to die down a little bit after what was considered a pretty mediocre second outing for the new world.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters then dropped the universe's standards once more and now any hope for this ambitious venture rests heavily on the shoulders of Adam Wingard's Godzilla Vs Kong.

To date, Wingard hasn't ever taken the reigns of a project of this size and scope, so he could still play a blinder and churn out the franchise's best film to date - his work on film's such as The Guest and Blair Witch definitely highlights what a top-standard director he can be.

However, if he doesn't knock it out of the park with GVK, his stock may take a catastrophic hit and the once so hopeful Monster-verse could be permanently slain before our very eyes.
