10 Directors With Make Or Break Movies For 2020
4. Shawn Levy - Free Guy
Anyone who has ever had the absolute pleasure of sitting through one of his Stranger Things episodes will tell you just how talented a director Shawn Levy unquestionably is.
Helping to produce and helming some of the greatest moments the brilliant sci-fi coming-of-age show has had to offer, Levy has defined himself as one of the finest television storytellers of his generation.
Yet, Levy hasn't really carved out that same level of success on the big screen.
He hasn't produced anything awful, per se, however projects in the same vein as his Night of the Museum franchise and The Pink Panther reboot don't exactly scream out 'must-watch cinema'.
Now, six years on from his last feature film project - the third NOTM film - Levy is back with Free Guy.
Starring Ryan Reynolds and featuring Killing Eve's Jodie Comer and Stranger Things' Joe Keery, Free Guy will tell the story of a non-playable video game character who becomes aware that he is in fact in a game and thus sets out to become the hero of the world.
The premise sounds interesting enough, so there's hope that this feature could be Levy's way of really establishing himself as a top class movie-maker. But, if Free Guy gets lost in the Summer 2020 blockbuster shuffle, perhaps Levy will have to make himself comfy in the television world he has become so adept in.
