10 Disgustingly Gory Moments in Otherwise Tame Films

4. Chest Pains - Alien

alien Ridley Scott€™s greatly influential sci-fi horror masterpiece Alien is a tremendously beautiful piece of art. It€™s also a horror film in the vein of the €œless is more€ approach. Not very much happens during the film€™s first half in which a space crew picks up a strange alien being that begins to change form and eventually kill everyone one by one. In this haunted house like thriller, there are moments of grossness to be had here, but the film actually restrains itself quite a bit in the gore department; except for one very well-known scene of course. The moment the chestburster alien ejects itself from John Hurt€™s body is a moment of brilliant shock and gore that immediately became an iconic image of modern horror. Not only did the moment shock the audience but it shocked the actors if not more: the look of genuine fear and terror on their faces is completely genuine €“ they had no idea how gross this moment was actually going to be.
