Sibling rivalry can be a dangerous thing. Those of us with brothers and sisters have likely felt that sense of jealousy toward them, perhaps due to our parents seemingly showing them more affection. The Lion King II: Simba's Pride tackles this issue to such an extent that it results in the death of one of the siblings involved, with Nuka being crushed by logs in a desperate attempt to gain his mother's recognition and get one over on his younger brother, Kovu.

Attempting to chase Simba up a pile of very loose logs, Nuka loses his footing, slips, and is instantly covered in a heap that leaves him no possibility of escape. With his dying breath, he whispers "I'm sorry mother... I tried", in one final, fatal attempt to earn the love of a parent who hadn't shown him much up to that point.

Nuka was an unstable character from the start, constantly vying for his mother's attention and frequently disregarding rules and the safety of those around him in order to gain it. But when you see how far this urge drives him - to his death - you'll come to appreciate the power of simply showing your loved ones you care, and you'll understand why Nuka acted the way he did - it wasn't selfishness, it was a misguided attempt to earn respect.
