10 Disney Supporting Stars That Need Their Own Movie

5. Captain Hook

Captain Hook Peter Pan
Disney

Peter Pan has issues. The film has not gone down in history for being one of the more racially sensitive films (though it is by no means the worst offender in that regard on this list). The depiction of the Native American characters is...woeful. It puts a very serious dent in the reputation of the movie.

That is not to say however that there are not many wonderful things to enjoy in the animated classic. Peter himself is a fun, if brattish, character to follow. Wendy is the virtuous mother-figure for the children and who doesn't love Nana the dog?

And then there's Captain Hook. He would become quickly established as one of the most recognisable villains in the Disney library, though the film absolute does Hook wrong! His characterization is a serious departure from the source material, originally written by J.M. Barrie.

Hook may be evil, but he is also a firm believer in 'good form' - meaning, for want of a better description, he believes in fair play. Does this sound the Captain Hook of the Disney film? Not in the least.

It seems to have been a conscious decision on the filmmakers' parts to change this (there is a moment when he literally says the words 'blast fair play!') but this is not the Hook of the book.

A film explaining who Hook really is would be an excellent movie to enjoy. And, if it helped to erase some of the stains that the original has, that could only help its case!
