10 Doomed Movie Characters Saved By Reshoots
6. Diego - Ice Age
One of the great benefits of animation is that it's considerably easier to "reshoot" a scene that isn't working - not to in any way undermine the blood, sweat, and tears that go into creating any animated scene.
In 2012, Ice Age star Dennis Leary, who voices saber-tooth tiger Diego, confirmed that his beloved character was originally supposed to die near the end of the first movie.
In the first version of the film, Diego died from the grave wounds he sustained while trying to prevent the ambush against Manny (Ray Romano) and Sid (John Leguizamo).
However, Leary claims that during a test screening the young audience members burst into tears when it was clear that Diego wasn't coming back, something that Leary predicted would happen and apparently warned the producers of.
And so, the decision was made to render an additional sequence at the end of the film where a wounded Diego returns.
From a commercial standpoint this was absolutely the right call, though you have to hand it to the filmmakers for initially committing to such a ballsy end for Diego.
