10 Dumb Decisions In The DC Extended Universe We Can't Forgive
6. "Damaged"
Comic book fans have admittedly zeroed in on The Joker's "Damaged" tattoo in Suicide Squad, but there were more issues with Jared Leto's interpretation than that alone. It was, however, a serious problem, as it was ridiculously on the nose and the dumbest of a huge number of stupid tattoos.
Director David Ayer clearly wanted to introduce a new take on the Clown Prince of Crime who could be compared to some of the gangsters that exist in the real-world, but The Dark Knight proved that there are better ways to reimagine a realistic version of The Joker without too drastically reinventing him. Throw in Leto's weird performance, and his appearance was just one of many issues.
However, perhaps Warner Bros.' dumbest decision was to water The Joker down thanks to reshoots meant to give Suicide Squad a lighter tone after the negative reactions to Batman v Superman. Most of Leto's scenes ended up on the cutting room floor, while his abusive relationship with Harley Quinn was watered down to the point that he became a total non-factor here.
Oh, and let's be honest, not having him share a single scene with Batman - who made THREE appearances in Suicide Squad - was downright unforgiveable.
