10 Embarrassing Comic Book Movies That Ruined Beloved Characters
4. Jonah Hex - Jonah Hex (2010)
One of the more obscure characters in the DC lineup, Jonah Hex is still admired by fans for his bad-ass nature and likeness to all the outstanding Western gunslingers who came before him. Famed for his exceptional marksman skills, Hex has been able to take on Batman multiple times, and come out on top, forever proving how capable of a hero (or anti-hero) he really is. When a film adaptation was released in 2010, fans hopes couldn't have been higher.
Hopes that were then dashed almost as fast as bullet from Hex's gun.
Props to Josh Brolin, as he is giving it the best he's got, but that isn't enough to save this film, which was plagued with rewrites and reshoots long before it was eventually released.
The film itself seems to suffer from this behind-the-scenes conflict, with the overall experience being that of confusion, incompotence and boredom. Clocking in at 81 minutes, the film is at least mercifully short. Of course, Josh Brolin made it out alright, later turning up as Cable in Deadpool 2 (2018) and of course, Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019).
The character seems to be doing well despite this film, having appeared in several animated films, as well as the Arrowverse, portrayed by Johnathon Schaech, but it will probably be a while before we see another cinematic iteration attempted.
