10 Embarrassing Superhero Movies Hollywood Wants You To Forget

2. The Punisher (1989)

PunisherStarring: Dolph Lundgren He's proved a notoriously difficult character to bring to the screen, after multiple failed attempts, but the first offering, starring his royal badness Dolph Lundgren as Frank Castle barely even qualified as an official adaptation. There was no sign of the iconic white skull chest logo, and with a slightly changed origin story, Dolph's Punisher was stripped of some of his most compelling character details, and the film was panned as a result from most angles. Intended for a US release in 1989, the film ended up getting a limited worldwide theatrical release, and went straight to VHS (and laserdisc) in 1991 in the US instead thanks to financial difficulties, despite being shown at the Los Angeles Comic Book and Sci-fi Convention. Though it was panned, in light of the subsequent attempts to bring The Punisher to the screen, this one actually stands up quite well, even if it is mostly viewed as an embarrassment. It is something of a kitsch pleasure, with good fight scenes and some of the most comically terrible acting ever committed to film. http://youtu.be/umYvv7K4Z_I
