10 Essential Marvel Teams Not Yet Used In The Movies

7. S.W.O.R.D.

Dark Avengers
Marvel Comics

With all the cosmic threats in the MCU, a guarding force against extra-terrestrial incursions against Earth is just...well, sensible. The Sentient World Observation and Response Department is the alphabet agency answer to world-ending threats like Thanos, and the Skrull and Kree empires to come in Captain Marvel.

Their space station, the Peak, orbiting Earth in the comics, will be both familiar, and entirely new to audiences that have just gotten used to the sci-fi space opera that gained popularity in Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy.

A more put-together, Star Trek like approach to Guardians' Space Cowboys, S.W.O.R.D. boasts some interesting characters and cosmic resources, with the green-haired firebrand Abigail Brand at the helm and extra-terrestrials like Sydren, among others, counting among its members. Abigail herself being a mutant, and mutants having also been members of S.W.O.R.D. in the past, makes for some fantastic crossover potential with characters acquired from the Disney-Fox merger.

It's about time for invading forces to find Earth fighting back, and S.W.O.R.D. is absolutely the weapon by which Earth stands a fighting chance. Especially if the Avengers are no longer the option they used to be.
