10 Even More Insane Over The Top Horror Movies

David Cronenberg's Naked Lunch contains a scene where exterminator William Lee (Peter Weller) accidentally shoots his wife, Joan (Judy Davis), dead while reenacting the William Tell folk story. Just to make this situation more bizarre, the story's creator, William S. Burroughs, claims this is how he killed his second wife.

As difficult as it is to believe, Joan's demise doesn't even rank in the top ten strangest moments in Naked Lunch. Despite the fact the bonkers feature kicks off with a giant beetle hiring Lee as a secret agent, it doesn't prepare viewers for how otherworldly things are going to get.

There's an air of incomprehensibility in every scene, which is accentuated by the distorted performances, trippy dialogue, and warped angles. After Lee encounters a talking typewriter and a shapeshifting centipede, it's clear this cerebral drama is not something to be understood but experienced.

With body horror pioneer David Cronenberg helming the project, there's literally nobody who could've adapted this kaleidoscopic saga better. Sure, it may have bombed spectacularly at the box office, but that hasn't stopped Naked Lunch from earning a reputation as one the most brain-melting flicks in the history of cinema.
