10 Even More Upcoming Movies That Are Already Doomed

9. The Garfield Movie

The Crow 2024
Sony Pictures Releasing

Garfield may have started off as a reasonably entertaining three-panel comic strip, but the lasagne-loving kitty was so relatable that he's endured for over 40 years, becoming the most syndicated comic strip ever. Due to the popularity of Jim Davis' creation, it's no surprise Garfield has made the transition to the big screen, even if so far he hasn't had much luck in the movie business.

Sadly, the latest Garfield film isn't shaping up to be much better than the previous two. Rather than replicating the dry humour and sharp-tongued put-downs of the source material, the trailers suggest The Garfield Movie will rely on wacky gags and more wacky gags. This begs the question, why were the filmmakers keen on adapting Garfield if they weren't going to make it like Garfield?

It's also odd how the bulk of the plot revolves around Garfield's father, which is a plot point that bears no significance in the source material. Even though the project has many funny actors, like Chris Pratt, Samuel L. Jackson, and Snoop Dogg, very few jokes in the trailer land. If those wisecracks are meant to be the funniest parts, this animated feature is in real trouble.

Also, The Garfield Movie is directed by Mark Dindal, who's responsible for one of Disney's worst animated features, 2005's Chicken Little. The fact Dindal hasn't directed anything since isn't likely to inspire confidence.
