It takes a certain sort of human being to stand up and let their guard down in front of a camera for an audience's entertainment.

That being said, the many brave and typically confident movie stars found occupying big-screens around the world are still very much just that: human - well, everyone except Tom Cruise, perhaps. So, it's not uncommon for the odd awkward scene or on-set moment to leave an otherwise composed performer wishing they could be anywhere else in the world than in front of a cast and crew.

Yet, while the majority of actors plying their trade in the movie-making business today have been able to brush some of their more embarrassing and cringe-worthy showings under the carpet by either putting on a brave face or keeping their lips sealed on the trauma they experienced, the following names very much made their desire to be entirely swallowed up by the ground known either on-screen or later down the road.

From soul-crushing lines being forced into existence, to CGI set-pieces being enough to break the heart of Hollywood's finest, these are those precise moments actors felt their souls leave their bodies.

A first day on any job isn't what you'd class as the most enjoyable of experiences at the best of times. So, you can only imagine the sheer amount of anxiety and pressure Star Wars newcomer Daisy Ridley was nursing as she set foot on the set of The Force Awakens for the first time.

But far from easing his new leading ladies' nerves early on, with Ridley even confessing to finding it tough to adjust to the reality of someone simply being on hand to hold an umbrella over her in-between takes, J.J. Abrams brought down the hammer from the get-go.

As the Rey star would explain to Glamour, the director confessed to his actor that he felt her acting was pretty "wooden" during her first day in the galaxy far, far away... And sure enough, when faced with this rather harsh critique on day one, the performer admitted, "I honestly wanted to die. I thought I was gonna cry, I couldn't breathe."

Luckily the thespian managed to turn things around in the end, producing a star-making turn in her Episode VII bow. But Daisy definitely got off to a rocky start within the Skywalker Saga.
