10 EXACT Moments That Derailed Huge Movies
7. Man Of Steel - The First Action Sequence
The divisive Man of Steel is a movie of two halves - the first half is rather good, the second is godawful.
Throughout the first half, we get a well-told non-linear origin story for Superman (Henry Cavill), one which is gently soulful and filled with good visuals. And then, in the second half, it all devolves into all these mindless sequences of overpowered characters punching each other through walls in a series of overdone, tension-free action sequences that ruin all the great work done earlier on.
This begins from the first fight scene between Superman and main antagonist General Zod (Michael Shannon) and his allies. It's a headache-inducing slice of CGI overkill that sets the tone for the majority of the film's remainder in the worst possible way. There's also the finale where Superman and General Zod's fight destroys much of Metropolis, so Superman is now responsible for the deaths of God-knows how many innocent people.
The very final scenes after Superman kills General Zod (a scene which annoyed a lot of fans at the time, as Superman traditionally doesn't kill) are better and feel more like the earlier reels, but by then, it's too little and too late.
