10 EXACT Moments That Derailed Huge Movies
6. Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania - MODOK Reveal
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania had already gotten off to a bit of a rocky start, but there was nothing too offensive early on. Unfortunately, once this character arrived, any and all credibility was destroyed beyond all repair.
As soon as MODOK (Corey Stoll) unmasks and reveals his garish, nightmare-fuel CGI mug, the film will lose pretty much everyone. How is anybody supposed to take this movie seriously after that? This is a big studio blockbuster that cost $200 million, and yet nobody stepped in to correct this? Seriously, what were they thinking?
Not only does this guy look like something out of 2019's Cats, but he also represents all the worst aspects of recent MCU flicks. Here, they turned an iconic comic book villain into a cringe-worthy joke and had him playing second-fiddle to Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors), an antagonist who didn't really fit the story, all the way through. Eventually, he also got a godawful redemptive arc that was as rushed and half-assed as it gets.
This largely underwhelming threequel, with its messy script and visually ugly spectacle, doesn't do much to win its viewers back but even then, that would've been a Herculean task. They lost us at "Surprised to see me?"
