While The Last Jedi wasn't everyone's cup of tea, it did still dare to take the franchise into exciting new waters as Rey was confirmed to actually not belong to one of Star Wars' famous families and Kylo Ren took up the role of Supreme Leader post-Snoke killing.
Within The Rise of Skywalker's opening sequence, however, just about everything intriguing set up in The Last Jedi was thrown right down a reactor shaft.
Somehow returning despite seemingly dying in Return of the Jedi, The Emperor went about letting Ren know early on that he'd actually been pulling the strings from afar all along. And it was his said return from the grave that also set the stage for Rey's bold "nobody" revelation in Episode VIII to be undone, too.
