10 Most Exciting Films Premiering At Toronto Film Festival 2014
9. The Theory of Everything
What It's About: The Theory of Everything is a biopic, focusing on the early life of Stephen Hawking. The film takes place while he is a college student, falling in love with his future wife Jane Wilde, when he receives the devastating diagnosis that predicts he will only have two years to live. It then details their relationship as they struggle to deal with and overcome his condition. Eddie Redmayne takes on the role of the young scientist, with Felicity Jones playing Jane. The film also features David Thewlis, Emily Watson, Harry Lloyd, and Charlie Cox. Why You Should Be Excited: The subject of Stephen Hawking's early life is one that has been broached fairly recently, back in 2004 when Benedict Cumberbatch took on the role for the TV movie Hawking, but it's never been seen on the big screen. And even if it had, it's an immensely fascinating story with acres of emotionally evocative content to mine. We have total faith in Eddie Redmayne to do Hawking justice -- he's an electric performer who still hasn't reached his full potential on screen, which anyone who saw his performance in Red (a role that earned him major theatrical awards on both sides of the pond) can attest to.
Audrey Fox is an ex-film student, which means that she prefers to spend her days in the dark, watching movies and pondering the director's use of diegetic sound. She currently works as an entertainment writer, joyfully rambling about all things film and television related.
