10 Famous People You May Have Forgotten Were Oscar Winners
6. Martin McDonagh
You may know Martin McDonagh as the filmmaker who's responsible for such critically-acclaimed films as In Bruges and Seven Psychopaths. He started his career out as a playwright before he moved onto feature films, but before he even made his debut film, he had already managed to grab a golden statue. McDonagh won an Oscar for Best Live-Action Short Film back in 2006. The award was for his 27-minute film Six Shooter, which starred Brendan Gleeson and RĂșaidhrĂ Conroy. It was the first film he ever made and he wins an Oscar for it... what a way to start a career, no? Brendan Gleeson then went on to star alongside Colin Farrell in McDonagh's In Bruges, a film that received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay. With just two films in the bag and at the young age of 43, McDonagh definitely has more movies left in him. But if none of his future films wind up getting any love from the Academy, don't worry: he's already got his.
