10 Fan-Favourite Deleted Scenes (That Are Secretly Terrible)

3. Luke Talks With Biggs On Tatooine - Star Wars: A New Hope

In the Star Wars we all know and love, Biggs - and his wonderful seventies moustache - appears towards the end as the rebels prepare to attack the Death Star, with the two old friends embracing warmly and the audience wondering who the hell he is. For many, many years, however, Star Wars aficionados swore the version they saw in 1977 included scenes with Luke€™s rebel friend Biggs on Tatooine. Lucas claims these scenes were never in the movie, but he also said that Han always shot first so his word isn€™t reliable. Although he was kinda right here - they were only ever in a working cut of the film. The scenes spend more time with Luke on Tatooine where he watched the opening battle through binoculars. He runs into Biggs as he€™s about to leave to join the Rebels, giving some backstory on the Empire€™s nastiness while also providing Luke more motivation to join the Rebellion later. The audience also learns what happened to Luke€™s original, overworked droid. For years these scenes were only available through grainy photos and the script, passing into legend in fan circles. They were ultimately released decades later where people could experience the awkward dialogue for themselves, whilst learning information the movie reveals in other scenes. The stilted performance of the actor playing Biggs probably helped with the decision to delete these scenes too.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
