We already know that Quentin Tarantino-Robert Rodgriguez collaborations including From Dusk till Dawn and Grindhouse are considered part of Tarantino’s Movie Movie Universe but the two directors’ films may be more intricately linked than they seem.

Firstly there’s the character of Sheriff Earl McGraw who was shot dead by Richie Gecko in From Dusk till Dawn, went on to discover the Bride’s body at the Two Pines Wedding Chapel in Kill Bill and in Grindhouse came up against both serial killer Stuntman Mike and zombies.

Then we have the character Machete played by Danny Trejo who first appeared in Rodriguez’s Spy Kids series before appearing in one of the mock trailers featured in Grindhouse and later starring in two Rodriguez directed solo movies Machete and Machete Kills.

Secondly, Tarantino and Rodriguez have been playing swapsies with props and fictional brands for years too. The Big Kahuna Burger chain features in Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs and Rodriguez’s From Dusk till Dawn and The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl while Red Apple Cigarettes are smoked in both Kill Bill and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

Likewise, the crotch gun worn by Sex Machine in From Dusk till Dawn and later seen in Machete Kills actually first appeared in Rodriguez’s 1995 movie Desperado which links the other films from his Mexico trilogy (El Mariachi and Once Upon a Time in Mexico) to the Tarantino-verse too.

As for where other Robert Rodriguez films like The Faculty fit into this theory ... well … the jury’s still out on that.
