10 Fantastic Asian Horror Films You Must See Before You Die
6. Ju-On (2002)
There's an age-old idea in horror lore that some events are traumatic enough to leave a mark on the physical world - a curse, if you will.
So in Ju-On when a family is brutally murdered in an apartment and their remains stashed upstairs, it comes as no surprise when there's supernatural hell to pay.
Ju-On delivers some great visual scares - that image of the stark white ghost kid in his undercrackers is guaranteed to be burned into your retina for all time.
Then there's Kayako, a vengeful ghost who kills all she comes into contact with, and is all the more frightening because she doesn't play by our poxy Western folklore rules.
Ju-On went on to become a franchise, which includes US remake The Grudge and its sequels, the first two of which were helmed by original director Takashi Shimizu.
