Although Jamie McKelvie's red and blue suit is front and centre in the film, it also pays homage to several of Captain Marvel's comic book outfits. This moment occurs towards the end of the second act, where Danvers, Fury and Talos are at Maria Rambeau's.
While speaking to Monica - herself a hero in the comics - lieutenant trouble cycles through a number of colour schemes on Carol's Kree armour. There's the original white and green of the character's first look, which is then followed by the red and yellow look the character sported during her Ms. Marvel years. After that comes a black and gold combination, which actually harkens back to her time as Warbird, the outfit seen to the right of the above image.
It's a small scene, but an Easter Egg that longtime fans of the character are sure to appreciate - even if they are all grateful for McKelvie's intervention seven years ago.
