“Disney’s Folly” soon turned into Disney’s goldmine when Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was released in December 1937 (wide release February 1938). By the end of it’s theatrical run it made more money than the second-place film did four times over and earned an international box office gross of $7.8 million.

Disney continued the ball rolling by re-releasing the film in cinemas on a regular basis between 1944 and 1993, as well as several video, DVD and Blu-Ray reissues. By the end of all of these theatrical runs, Snow White earned a whopping $418 million. Not a lot when compared to the dozens of billion-dollar-plus movies we have today but adjusted for inflation of ticket prices as of 2014, Snow White’s worldwide gross sits at $1.819 billion.

In North America alone, it has grossed just shy of the billion dollar mark. To put that into perspective, that means Snow White has sold more tickets than Avatar, Ben-Hur, Raiders of the Lost Ark and every Star Wars movie excluding A New Hope. When it comes to adjusting for inflation, the ticket sales mean everything, and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs really shifted those tickets!
