10 Femmes Fatales Who Would Tramp All Over Your Heart
9. Ivy - Poison Ivy (1992)
Drew Barrymore plays the young seductress in this movie, who ingratiates herself into her introverted friend Cooper's home life, initially as her friend but then she becomes fixated in luring the father character Tom Skerritt to bed. She eventually achieves this, although I don't know what the attraction is there - Skerritt's character is a boring old fart. Ivy also throws Cooper's ailing mother (played by Cheryl Ladd) out of her bedroom window to her death. Will this teenage temptress ruin the family altogether? Drew Barrymore is very impressive as the femme fatale in this film which has never really been given the praise it is due. Sara Gilbert is perfect as a foil to Barrymore's teenage nymphet. The initial scenes of Ivy swinging on a rope establish her wanton and provocative sexuality. Little does Cooper know that Ivy is a conniving home wrecker as well. The film is a weird one to classify - there are higher forces at work in the movie (like the presence of Drew Barrymore) but it is also quite a trashy movie too, not that trash can't be appreciated - not every film has to be Citizen Kane to have merit and be enjoyable. Above all, it is the tale of a very disturbed femme fatale and her home wrecking antics. It is a heck of a lot of fun to pass 90 minutes.
My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
