10 Film Parodies Better Than The Original
5. Shaun Of The Dead
Original Movie: Dawn of the Dead
Shaun of the Dead is a subversive and witty zombie movie that came out at just the right time. Hitting theatres in 2004 before we were inundated with zombies in pop culture its amazing how Shaun of the Dead managed to satirize not just the zombie movies that came before it, but also the ones that came after it. Part of that is how broad the film is, somehow Shaun of the Dead manages to be a parody film, a zombie movie, a romantic comedy, a buddy comedy and an action film all at once.
It never feels forced though because the characters are so normal and relatable. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are just a couple of losers who like getting drunk and playing video games but when the zombie outbreak hits they must go on rescue mission to save their loved ones and find a nice quiet place to wait until this all blows over.
It’s a fairly standard zombie movie plot but where it goes from there is truly special. Action sequences set to Queen songs, Uniquely British humour and the realisation that these characters are just normal people trying to work through their issues and can’t because they just keep getting interrupted by those pesky zombies.
Shaun of the Dead is a classic, perhaps the best out of the Cornetto Trilogy and one of the greatest zombie movies of all time.
