10 Film Subplots Infinitely Better Than The Main Story

1. Prepare To Die - The Princess Bride

When most people think of the 1987 masterpiece The Princess Bride, their mind immediately goes to the line, "Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." Mandy Patinkin's swashbuckling Spaniard steals the movie, with his hunting the six-fingered man to avenge his father the absolute highlight.

However, this isn't actually the main plot of the movie, which revolves around a love story between Princess Buttercup and her farmboy Westley. While their love story is as charming as it is funny, nothing tops Inigo on his quest for revenge. Even the defeat of the main villain, Prince Humperdinck, is less satisfying than when Inigo finally slays his father's killer.

The Princess Bride is as close to a perfect movie as anything out there, and this subplot is still its strongest element.
