10 Film Villains We Secretly Wanted To Win

4. The Persians €“ 300

The Persian army may be made up almost entirely of slaves but the Spartans are truly no better. The opening scene of the 2006 movie immediately dispelled any sympathy we would feel towards the Spartans when it explained the eugenicist process through which they turned their youth into the warriors of legend. Children unlucky enough to be born in the city-state were forced to grow up either beating others to a pulp or receiving the beating. Any physically inferior specimens would quickly be €˜removed€™. Leonidas is basically just Adolf Hitler with abs and a cool red cloak. The Persians, led by the looming God-king, Xerxes I, are far from sympathetic but they€™re easier to support than the smug, xenophobic Spartans. When the monsoon of arrows rained down on Leonidas and his highly skilled squadron of super-soldiers the world was truly done a big favour.
