5. The Adventures Of Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert (1994)

The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994) has been an iconic part of LGBTQ+ culture ever since its release in the early 90s, but its portrayal of a trans woman (played by a cis, male actor), and frankly offensive and archaic language no longer has a place in our culture as we know it today.

We've seen a lot of franchises attempt to keep up with the times by getting "dark" reboots, which arguably became even more popular with The Dark Knight (2008), the magnum opus of Christopher Nolan's career. But what if we got a dark reboot of something so innately queer and camp without being detrimental to its characters?

Why not let the Soska sisters take a crack at this comedy-drama? After American Mary (2012), these two, brilliantly sadistic co-directors are have proven that they are capable of empowered female characters, tackling sexual aggressors and abuse with poetic justice and that pro sex work is something to be celebrated, not damned: these are all themes within Priscilla that the Soska sisters could reimagine into something delightfully gory and queer, a completely sinister subversion of the original source material.
