10 Films That Prove 1984 Was The Best Year For '80s Movies

8. Police Academy

Police Academy is a comedy about a group of misfit police recruits with nothing to lose, sticking it to the man while simultaneously training to be the man, oddly enough. It features a great cast of now iconic oddball characters including the irresponsibly gun-crazed Tackleberry, the relentless sound effects machine, Larvell Jones, the clueless Commandant Lassard and of course Sgt. Callahan, the one who's always getting her boobs out. The film spawned a series of sequels, and although they all followed the same formula of ridiculous hi-jinx, cheap gags, stunts, and Callahan's boobs, it was a recipe that made the franchise world famous. Sure, the comedy was childish, the plots flimsy and the acting usually pretty awful, but the films had something simple that made them loveable. They were fun. Interesting fact: Bruce Willis, Tom Hanks, Michael Keaton and Judge Reinghold all auditioned for the role of Mahoney, before losing out to Steve Guttenberg. It's a great film, but probably for the best, guys.
