10 Films That Really Didn't Deserve Razzie Nominations
3. Star Wars: Revenge Of The Sith
Regardless of your personal feelings on the Star Wars prequels, it's pretty widely agreed upon that the third installment was the best film of the bunch. It saw Lucas capitalizing on the narrative seeds that had been planted throughout the two previous films and crafting a darkly thrilling epic to close out his series.
At the time of the films' release, it had become a bit popular to bash on Hayden Christensen's performance as Anakin Skywalker. He was an easy target for fanboys who had already had decades to build up their own idea of what Anakin Skywalker must have been like in his prime and simply knew that Christensen wasn't that. He was taking on a monumental, unforgiving role in the biggest franchise on Earth at the meek age of nineteen.
Thus, at that year's Razzies, he was not only nominated but won for Worst Supporting Actor.
First of all, calling Christensen a supporting actor in this film is like calling Hamill a supporting actor in Empire. But secondly, it's important to note that Christensen's performance in Sith is unexpectedly full of gravitas.
Moments such as Padme's revelation that she's pregnant or his decision to turn against Mace Windu are truly inspired and Christensen carries the full weight of them on the shoulders of his performance. He delivers a performance wracked by anxiety and trauma that truly explores the depths of the character in ways prior films had not.
