10 Films That Really Didn't Deserve Razzie Nominations

2. Rocky IV

The 1986 Razzies had their sights set on Stallone and they were not going to give him even the slightest of chances to not win. Between Rocky IV and Rambo: The Second One, Stallone's films acquired a record-breaking fifteen nominations. Rocky IV would go on to win a total of six awards, including Worst Actor, Worst Supporting Actress, Worst Director, Worst New Star, and Worst Musical Score.

The Rocky franchise certainly had a unique trajectory, in that it escalated from grounded, street-level realism to entire countries punching each other in the face in the blink of an eye. But picking on this fourth entry feels more than a bit unearned. Though it received some negative reviews at the time, the film has gone on to become a cult favorite.

Sure it's over-the-top and a bit ridiculously grandiose all of the time but its Stallone at his most Stallone-y. Its a ham-fisted political message being pounded into the audience through sheer fists and fury. It takes the established Rocky formula and pushes it to its absolute limits, resulting in one hell of a ride of a film.

Considering that the real shame of the franchise came a few years later in the form of Rocky V, Rocky IV feels like an achievement rather than a misstep. Its bloated and bonkers crazy at times but that's exactly what Stallone was going for. He had this insane vision of a film that embodied him as a movie star and he charged right ahead.
