Comedy? Musical? Horror? There are so many categories that Jim Sharman’s The Rocky Horror Picture Show can be shoehorned into. ‘Normal’ is not a tag that it can ever be associated with.

Rocky Horror brought to light all kinds of niches and taboo topics in Hollywood when it first appeared at midnight-movie screenings in 1975, obliterating conventional public opinions en route.

The film released in a landscape entirely different from what we know and accept today, thus giving a voice to many people that had been shunned and oppressed by wider society.

It is still seen as an iconic film for LGBTQ+ movements today, with Tim Curry playing the quite incredible role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a bisexual transvestite that seeks the secrets of life.

With a vast array of killer musical numbers – very literally 'killer' – Rocky Horror is by a long shot the most original musical to ever hit the big screen.

Sure, the whole idea surrounding suggested cannibalism and aliens launch the film straight into the downright ridiculous, but this takes nothing away from everything the film represents. For how vital the film was for its time, a remake would lose a lot of the magic and meaning behind the characters.
