4. Highlander II: The Quickening (1991)
Russell Mulcahy's Highlander was hardly the pinnacle of cinematic excellence, but it was entertaining enough to secure its place as a popular cult favorite. Five years later Mulcahy, Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery all returned for the follow-up, that threw continuity and logic completely out of the window and resulted in one of the worst sequels ever made. The plot is frequently incomprehensible and often makes absolutely no sense at all, jumping back and forward through time and space with reckless abandon, ladling on the exposition that retcons much of the mythology established in the original. The special effects are incredibly bad for a movie with a budget of $34m and the performances from the cast are all over the place ranging from scenery-chewing to outright boredom, with Connery particularly guilty of turning up for the paycheck. Two Director's Cuts have since made the rounds on home video, which do offer some minor improvements over the shambles that originally hit theaters.
I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
