5. The Long Kiss Goodnight
Another one from great screenwriter Shane Black. This was Black at the peak of his career, selling his script for this film for $3 million and becoming the highest paid writer of that time. While the title itself is fairly catchy, one can't really discern from it that the film was about a normal suburban house wife who finds out she's actually a lethal assassin with a troubled past. Action and comedy ensue in true Shane Black fashion, culminating in an explosive finale. The Long Kiss Goodnight sounds more like a romantic comedy about two people reunited against all odds after a long time apart. Imagine audiences surprise when instead the movie featured a badass Geena Davis mowing down bad guys and Samuel L. Jackson doing what he does best.
