4. Adam Sandler

Ok, so controversial choice maybe? Let me preface this by saying I don't think Sandler is a spectacular actor by any stretch of the imagination. No, what he was long ago, was a strong comic actor and writer with an instantly recognisable tone that was, by and large, very entertaining. He then later proved that he actually had substantial acting chops (more on this in a bit). But for the last decade post Click perhaps he's been firing off cinematic turds like it's going out of style. "Jack and Jill", "Grown-ups", "That's My Boy" - if it bills itself as a comedy yet lacks even the most rudimentary of chuckles then more than likely Sandler has had a hand in it. He's just become a schlubby has been churning out middle of the road "family friendly" content stuffed to the gills with cliché, hackiness and Kevin James's enormous waistline. Always the same assembled gang of unfunnies (James, Spade, Schinder et al) falling over, bumping into things, being married to impossibly gorgeous women and learning crappy life lessons along the way, all whilst studio audiences sit stony faced watching these "comedy actors" grin like smug turtles that love the smell of their own farts. Painful But let's remember that Sandler was once a really strong stand up way back whenever the hell it was and films like Billy Madison, The Water Boy and that one about golf may have had the same formulaic approach but at least that approach had some god damn laughs init. Then on top of all that he goes and stars in Paul Thomas Anderson's "Punch-Drunk Love" and suddenly proves that he can f**king act. Like, really act. So what's going on then? WHAT GIVES
