10 Future Cult Classic Movies You Need To See

1. Aaaaaaaah!

Aaaaaaaah! Movie

The feature debut written and directed by Steve Oram (Sightseers) and starring Oram alongside Julian Barratt, Noel Fielding, and Tom Meeton, the bizarrely titled Aaaaaaaah! is arguably one of the weirdest and most intriguing films in recent years, and you’ve probably never heard of it.

Making its first appearance at London’s FrightFest Film Festival in 2015, this film is a family drama that explores themes of masculinity and relationship between two feuding families. The catch is that everyone acts like apes. That’s right, there is no dialogue in the entire film. Instead, the entire cast make wild, animalistic grunting noises, and it’s just as brilliantly bonkers as you could imagine.

Interestingly, a version of the screenplay was written in English by Oram (though he doesn’t intend to reveal what the dialogue was) for the cast to rehearse before they – for lack of a better term – went ape. And although there’s no intelligible language to be found here, the expressiveness of the cast (especially Barratt) allows viewers to become swept away in the emotion of the ensuing drama.

What self-respecting cult fan wouldn’t want to see a film where everyone acted like apes?
