10 Future Stars Who Appeared In Star Trek
Star Trek has been a launching pad for many successful careers in Hollywood - thanks, Star Trek!
Some of the stars that walk the hallowed halls of the Enterprise go on to do great things, while others vanish in various transporter accidents. Of the names featured on this list, there seems to be a bit of a magical spell around the Enterprise-D in particular. The Next Generation, while not the only series mentioned here, does offer the lion's share of chance and choice to its guests.
Two future Bond women, several prolific character actors, activists, heartthrobs, and city managers have been through Trek's prestigious doors. We're not saying that we're bitter or anything like that. Sure, fine cast them. That's grand. See if we care. It's not even that we wanted to be in the show.
Sigh.
In all seriousness, there are some highly talented performers who have either donned spots, latex, or far-too-small uniforms to become a part of the final frontier. As in all things, there are some roles which are bigger than others, some that are bare cameos - but then there are those who made a large and meaningful impact on the franchise. Justice for Lt. 10. Famke Janssen
Famke Janssen has several roles for which she is best known. She may be instantly recognisable as Jean Grey from the X-Men films, or as Xenia Onnatopp from Goldeneye. She's also starred in Hemlock Grove and How To Get Away With Murder. But, to Star Trek fans, she may be best remembered as the actor who almost played Jadzia Dax.
Yes, you read that right. But, going back to The Next Generation, she appeared in the fifth season episode The Perfect Mate. Here, she played Kamala, a woman who's entire purpose is to marry the leader of a warring world to bring peace. While this is a topic that Star Trek had touched on before, this episode stands out for both Janssen and Patrick Stewart's side by side performances.
This led to the offer to come over to Deep Space Nine. Before Terry Farrell donned the Trill spots, Janssen was offered the part, although she declined to work in film. The look of Kamala is a clear inspiration for the Trill on DS9. Their original look, debuting in The Next Generation's The Host, was trialled and abandoned, allowing a greater display of Farrell's natural look.
