10 Game-Changing New Characters Coming To DCEU
2. Mongal
Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn is essentially rebooting Task Force X with The Suicide Squad, and for the most part, the filmmaker is using a lot of obscure villains in his movie. That's likely because he'll have more creative freedom with them, not to mention the fact he can kill them off with ease (the whole point of the Suicide Squad) as Warner Bros. won't have future plans for the villains.
Among them is Mongal (played by Mayling Ng), a malevolent alien conqueror. She is the daughter of Mongul, the Ruler of Warworld, (a classic Superman foe), and first appeared to alongside her brother when they teamed up to take on the Man of Steel for dishonouring their father.
That's something Gunn can have fun with, but more importantly, the character's presence here points to the DC Extended Universe embracing its cosmic roots. General Zod came to Earth from outer space, as did Steppenwolf, but the presence of Mongal points to it being a little more commonplace here.
Also of note is the rumour that the foe Task Force X comes up against is the immortal Vandal Savage; don't be surprised if that villain - played by Peter Capaldi - also shows up in Black Adam.
