2. Obvious Over-Dubs And Fletcher's Invisible Jacket - Whiplash
Though it was first shown at the previous years Sundance Film Festival, Whiplash was released to the world at large in January 2015, and it was quick to make its mark. Written and directed by Damien Chazelle based on his own experiences in the Princeton High School Studio Band, the film was a musical tour-de-force, though certain sections of musicians in the audience were far from thrilled. Many were quick to point out that Miles Tellers drumming rarely matched what you could actually hear throughout the whole film, and this was especially true in the final scene, where even those without a keen eye can see that the sound is an overdub. Given the sheer speed of the drumming required for this blistering scene, that can be forgiven, but easily avoidable continuity errors are not so easily forgotten. When Andrew is sat practising his doubles in front of Fletcher after meeting him for the first time, he looks up to see that his tutor has walked out on him, and we also see that there is no jacket on the hook by the door. Only, when Fletcher reappears a moment later claiming that he forgot his jacket has one magically materialised, hanging on the hook that was empty a moment ago. It seems that him forgetting his jacket was an afterthought that should have been left out all together for the sake of continuity.
