10 Good Films With Bad Titles

3. Captain Fantastic

Birds of Prey Harley Quinn
Bleecker Street

Captain Fantastic sounds like it should be the name of a superhero film. Instead, it tells the story of a man raising his kids in the wilderness, who has to come to the real world once his wife dies. The film asks us to grapple with Emersonian ideals, balance personal beliefs with being able to fit in, and how to care for others when you live an inherently selfish lifestyle.

With a title like Captain Fantastic, the movie makes itself seem like the kind of work Viggo Mortensen's Ben would hate. "Captain Fantastic" could join forces with Iron Man or Superman. If the title is supposed to be representative of Ben's wilderness lifestyle, it doesn't fit as well as the filmmakers think, and it might turn off the target audience, many of whom would most likely share Martin Scorsese's sentiments on comic book films.
