Robert Redford worked on some of the most notable films in the 20th century including Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, and All the President's Men. He continued his career in Hollywood working as a director and a producer, but one of his most lasting legacies is his founding of the Sundance Film Festival.

Redford acted in film until he announced his retirement in August 2018 following his completion of The Old Man & The Gun set for release in September of the same year.

When asked if he could return, the veteran actor said:

Never say never, but I pretty well concluded that this would be it for me in terms of acting, and [I’ll] move towards retirement after this ’cause I’ve been doing it since I was 21. I thought, Well, that’s enough. And why not go out with something that’s very upbeat and positive?”
